Update August 26th, 2016
PICCOLOR Newsletter Summer 2016
At FIBUS, we have been following the development of the new camera/PC-interfaces closely.
CoaxPress has now more or less established, with as many as 12 camera manufacturers and
4 frame grabber manufacturers (source: System Vision Design). CameraLink HS is still at the horizon.
However, according to our opinion, CameraLink HS is still not usable, with not even one
frame grabber being definitely on the market. Finally we decided to implement the Silicon
Software MicroEnable V as our first CoaxPress Grabber. We are still looking to optimize this,
may be by testing the Euresys or Kaya grabbers, and may be by testing different cables.
Cable length is a big problem, as with CXP you can only have up to 20 or 30m at high speed.
Glassfiber solutions for CXP will not be available at all. Very interesting seems to be the
10GigE interface, as it is used be the HR20000 camera from Emergent. We really hope that more
manufacturers will implement this interface with SFP+ modules for glass fiber connection
and very thin and flexible fibers. Even a 40GigE interface with quad SFP+ modules is at
the horizon and we really hope that it will be used at some time in the near future.
Again new frame grabbers and camera interfaces have been adapted for picCOLOR. Here we have the
CoaxPress interface with the Silicon Software MicroEnable V grabber, and the 10GigE interface with the
Emergent cameras.
Teledyne DALSA has developed a new CameraLink Full grabber family, the XTIUM grabber, that has an
extraordinary interesting upward path with newer interfaces like CXP or CameraLink HS to come in
the future. The Xtium CameraLink card is supposed to provide an extended cable length. But still
the CoaxPress version is not available.
