PICCOLOR Newsletter Winter 2001
Well, first of all we have to apologize for the late late late arrival of this
over-due newsletter. Our only excuse is the fact that we have been so busy over the
last two years porting the picCOLOR to Windows and Linux and writing a bunch of new
functions that we simply could not spend any time in writing news letters. Sorry again!
Now finally we can present a fully new picCOLOR program with amazing new features:
- Support for Windows NT4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP with full new GUI
- Support for Linux as a library for implementation in your own software
- New functionality in the BarCode and OCR/OCV extension modules
- Many new functions in the picCOLOR main program
- New frame grabber support and TWAIN interface for direct scanner acquisition
New functions in picCOLOR basic program:
- Several new binarization functions
- Camera lens calibration using the TSAI model
- Support of the implemented Windows printers
- TWAIN interface for gray level and RGB color images
- Counter/Timer card support for Keithley and Decision-Computer hardware
- Frame Grabber support for CORECO Viper family, CORECO F/64P, Silicon Software MicroEnable
- Other frame grabbers can be implemented easily on request
- A benchmark function was implemented that helps to determine the speed of your computer system
2D/3D Real Time Object Tracking Extension Module:
Tracking can be done in full camera speed now. One image is being analysed while the next is being grabbed.
This enables tracking speed of more than 1000 Hz, depending on the camera. Several new trigger and synchronization
methods are available.
Bar Code detection and reading:
A complete new bar code reader was implemented in the picCOLOR program Different from any other bar code reader,
this function can find and read bar codes in very large images. Right now the EAN8, EAN13, UPC-A, UPC-E,
and 2 out of 5 codes are implemented. Additional 1D-Bar Codes can be implemented easily on request
Optical character reading and verification (OCR/OCV):
OCR/OCV was implemented in picCOLOR by using a regression pattern matching approach. The interactive
training process is simple and quick. The functions are designed for small character counts
(up to 32 characters), but extenstion or improvements can be implemented. The most interesting function
of this new module is a character orientation analysis. picCOLOR recognizes the orientation of lines of text
and can rotate the text before the character analysis. For complex reading tasks the well known OCR package
OmniPage can directly be addressed from picCOLOR.
Available special modules:
- 3D/Sequence processing
- Interferometrics
- Stereometric measurement and display
- Particle Image Velocimetry / Objekt tracking (PIV/PTV)
- 2D/3D-Position-Tracking in Real Time
- Fringe Correlation Method (for surface deflection measurement)
- True Color Extensions
- Bar Code Reader
- OCR/OCV Character recognition and rotation
- Real Time Processing
- User-Programming in "C"
